Australian airline Jetstar will charge passengers to use the overhead lockers for their bags
Australian budget airline Jetstar will begin charging passengers to use overhead lockers for their carry-on bags starting in February 2027. This decision follows passenger and staff feedback identifying gate weighing and limited overhead space as stressful aspects of air travel. Passengers will still be allowed to bring a personal item, such as a purse or laptop bag, to be stored under the seat for free. The cost for overhead storage will start at 25 Australian dollars one way, with the price varying by route. Jetstar states this change aims to improve boarding efficiency and flight punctuality by better utilizing cabin space. While other low-cost carriers already charge for carry-on bags, Jetstar is noted as the first to implement a fee specifically for overhead locker use.
