Villas, cars and cash: Italy seizes dead Mafia mobster's millions
Italian anti-mafia investigators have seized assets worth over €200 million, including cash, companies, luxury villas, and cars. This operation targeted the network of the late Sicilian mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro, who was arrested in 2023 after decades on the run and died in custody. The seized funds are believed to be proceeds from over forty years of drug trafficking linked to Denaro, who was the presumed former head of the Cosa Nostra group. Investigators released a video showcasing raids on opulent villas. Messina Denaro had been sentenced to life imprisonment for numerous murders, including the assassinations of two anti-mafia prosecutors and the kidnapping and murder of a 12-year-old boy.
