Top Ugandan footballer killed by robbers armed with paving stones
Ugandan national footballer David Owori was fatally injured during a robbery in Kampala on Tuesday night. The 27-year-old captain of Sports Club Villa and a national team player was attacked by robbers attempting to steal his phone and belongings. Witnesses reported that attackers struck Owori with paving stones before fleeing, leaving him unconscious. He was discovered by passersby and taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Owori, a right-back and midfielder, had also played professionally in Europe and represented Uganda in Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. His death has prompted widespread mourning within the Ugandan football community and a minute of silence in parliament.
