Kyiv warns Iran against escalation after Ukraine’s Caspian Sea attack
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha spoke with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, following an incident in the Caspian Sea. Ukraine claims its strike targeted Russian warships and vessels transporting Iranian-linked military cargo, asserting it did not intend to harm civilians. Sybiha warned Iran against escalation and urged an end to support for Russia's war in Ukraine. Araghchi confirmed the call, stating Sybiha assured him the attack was unintentional and that Ukraine did not seek to escalate tensions. However, Araghchi emphasized that attacks on Iranian citizens or interests are unacceptable and that restitution for losses is required. Iran previously stated the attack on an Iranian commercial vessel, which resulted in casualties, "cannot go unanswered" and accused Israel of provocation.
