Charity cyclist, 82, dies a day after 3,300 mile ride across Australia

Bob Montgomery, an 82-year-old cyclist, died unexpectedly a day after completing a 3,300-mile ride across Australia. Montgomery and his 18-year-old grandson cycled from Broome, Western Australia, to Bowral, south-west of Sydney, over six weeks. The journey, which Montgomery called "One Last Ride," raised approximately A$105,000 for a motor neurone disease (MND) charity. This was Montgomery's sixth fundraising ride for MND NSW, a cause he described as deeply personal. His family stated his passing was peaceful, with his wife by his side. Montgomery was reportedly still sharing his message hours before his death.

He was taken to St George hospital in a critical condition where he later died. A 79-year-old passenger in the vehicle was also hospitalized. MND NSW expressed deep sadness at the passing of their "tireless supporter."
