Italian police recover stolen paintings worth over $10m

Italian police have recovered three stolen paintings valued at over $10 million. The artworks, by Paul Cezanne, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Henri Matisse, were taken from the Fondazione Magnani Rocca museum near Parma in late March. Nine Moldovans are under investigation, with five believed to have carried out the swift burglary. The heist, captured on security footage, involved masked individuals entering through a window and removing the paintings in under three minutes. The recovered artworks were found in an apartment in Parma. Separately, Brazilian authorities also recovered Matisse artworks worth approximately $200,000, which had been stolen in December.

Brazilian police have recovered eight stolen illustrations by French artist Henri Matisse from a home in greater São Paulo. The artworks, valued at approximately $200,000, were found on Thursday in São Bernardo do Campo. A 44-year-old man was arrested at the residence and is suspected of storing the stolen pieces. The Matisse works were taken from the Biblioteca Mário de Andrade library on December 7th of last year by two thieves who overpowered a security guard and visitors. Three other individuals had previously been arrested in connection with the theft. Five works by Brazilian artist Candido Portinari, also stolen during the same incident, remain unrecovered.
