China recovers rocket stage on land for first time, after earlier recovery at sea

China has achieved its first successful land recovery of a rocket stage with the Zhuque-3 reusable rocket. This marks the second overall recovery for China, following a sea platform recovery in July. The Zhuque-3 was launched on Wednesday morning, and its first stage was subsequently recovered on land. This recovery also signifies China's initial use of deployable landing legs, which state media described as a significant advancement in reusable rocket technology. This development aims to reduce launch costs by enabling hardware reuse, similar to efforts by companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin. Japan also recently conducted a test flight of an experimental reusable rocket, indicating its pursuit of similar cost-saving space technologies.

China's commercial rocket company LandSpace has achieved a global first by recovering a stainless-steel booster following an orbital launch.
