New study links cosmic radiation to higher cancer death risk in flight crews
A new study indicates that flight attendants and pilots face the highest risk of death from radiation-related cancers, exceeding even those who work with radioactive materials. This increased risk is attributed to greater exposure to cosmic radiation, which originates from space and is more prevalent at high altitudes. Previous research had suggested a link between frequent flying and higher cancer death rates for aviation personnel, but this new study provides significant new evidence. The findings were discussed in an accompanying commentary by two Australian radiation experts.
