Pakistan’s PTI seeks contempt action over jailed Imran Khan’s hospital move
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has filed a contempt petition against government officials. This action follows Khan's transfer to a state-run hospital for a brief check-up on Friday, instead of the private facility ordered by the top court. The PTI alleges this move, along with denying Khan access to his personal physician, violates a court order issued on Tuesday. The court had directed Khan's transfer from Adiala jail to Shifa International Hospital for medical examination due to concerns about his health. The government stated the check-up found no immediate issues, but the PTI insists the court order requires ongoing medical supervision. Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023 on what he claims are politically motivated charges.
