Japan eyes deeper defence ties with Australia, India to ease supply chain concerns

Japan is seeking to strengthen its defense capabilities by deepening industrial ties with Australia and India, moving beyond its reliance on the United States. The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, will focus on Australia's acquisition of Japan's Mogami-class frigates and enhancing security cooperation. This high-level engagement occurs in the wake of controversy surrounding Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's comments and hand gestures about a gift of melons from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Japan's ambassador to Australia has indicated that the Japanese government wishes to move past the incident, emphasizing the positive personal trust built between the leaders.
