What to know about Alex Jones’ Texas court win and more than $1 billion in damages he still faces
Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones still owes over $1 billion to Sandy Hook families despite a Texas court reducing a $50 million judgment against him. The Texas appeals court removed most of that award due to state caps on punitive damages, leaving approximately $6 million intact. This ruling does not affect the larger $1.25 billion defamation judgment against Jones from a Connecticut lawsuit, which has been upheld. Jones and his company, Free Speech Systems, filed for bankruptcy amid these judgments, and families have yet to receive any compensation. The satirical website The Onion has proposed taking over Jones' Infowars platforms to create parody sites, but this deal is on hold during Jones' appeals.
