Malaysian villages shaken as blasts rock southern Thailand

The incidents on Saturday night involved 51 acts of violence, including small bombs and arson, causing property damage and injuring three civilians. While no group claimed responsibility, the attacks are believed to be the work of the Barisan Revolusi Nasional Melayu Patani (BRN), an insurgent group seeking self-rule for the region. The violence occurred as the Prime Minister was already dealing with a flood crisis in the north. An analyst suggested the BRN's actions were intended to demonstrate capabilities and send a message during ongoing peace talks.
