Germany accuses Russia of drone attack on Leipzig airport
Germany has accused Russia of being behind an attempted drone attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport on August 4. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that police investigations, offense patterns, and intelligence findings establish Russian responsibility, fitting a known pattern of "Russian hybrid operations." The drone, found near a Ukrainian plane, was defused. This announcement comes as several European countries supporting Ukraine report an increase in sabotage attempts blamed on Russia. In response, Germany will summon the Russian ambassador, close Russia's consulate general in Bonn and its cultural center in Berlin, and pursue additional EU sanctions and travel restrictions on Russian nationals. Russia's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman stated Moscow would respond to Germany's "anti-Russian action."
