Defence lawyer takes aim at psychiatrist’s care before Lindsay Clancy killed her children

During a court proceeding on Monday, Lindsay Clancy's defense lawyer, Kevin Reddington, questioned psychiatrist Dr. Jennifer Tufts's treatment of Clancy. Reddington aimed to argue that the mental healthcare system failed Clancy in the months leading up to the deaths of her three children. He highlighted the psychiatrist's use of brief, 25-minute video appointments, computerized documentation, and a series of prescribed medications that Clancy reported side effects from. The defense lawyer suggested Clancy's care was inadequate and indifferent, implying the doctor's approach was robotic.

During Lindsay Clancy's murder trial, her defense attorney questioned psychiatrist Dr. Jennifer Tufts about her treatment of Clancy in the months before she killed her three children. The defense argued that the mental healthcare system's inadequate and indifferent treatment, including short video appointments and medication management, contributed to Clancy's decline. Dr. Tufts testified that Clancy never reported symptoms of mania or psychosis, which would have been criteria for a bipolar diagnosis. Clancy's attorneys contend she was suffering from bipolar disorder and postpartum psychosis, while prosecutors argue she was an intentional killer. Clancy has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
