US imposes sanctions on Palestine Action and other left-wing groups

The United States has imposed sanctions on the British activist group Palestine Action and the international movement Masar Badil, as well as Italy-based Autistici Inventati, which provides digital services to left-wing organizations. These actions by the Trump administration are described as an intensification of a global crackdown on critics of Israel. Palestine Action, which is currently facing a ban in the United Kingdom, rejected the US sanctions. Huda Ammori, a cofounder of Palestine Action, stated that the US measures, inspired by the UK's designation of the group as "terrorist," highlight the dangers to free speech and civil liberties. Defend Our Juries echoed these concerns, suggesting the UK ban has emboldened other governments to suppress dissent. Palestine Action states it employs direct-action tactics to protest alleged complicity in the conflict in Gaza.

The US Department of the Treasury has issued sanctions against the UK-based direct action group Palestine Action, designating it a "transnational terror group" and a "specially designated global terrorist." This action allows the US to freeze the group's assets and prohibits US citizens and entities from doing business with them. The Treasury stated that Palestine Action has supported acts of terrorism, including those that injured UK law enforcement and caused significant damage to military equipment. Palestine Action, which was previously proscribed under the UK's Terrorism Act, is currently challenging this ban in the UK Supreme Court. The group's co-founder, Huda Ammori, criticized the US sanctions, arguing that their actions aim to disrupt the "Israeli war machine" and that the US decision mirrors the UK's "repression of the movement for Palestinian freedom."
