Iran likely to reverse-engineer captured US underwater drone
Iran has captured a US military underwater drone, a Dive-LD autonomous underwater vehicle designed for long-range surveillance. This incident presents Tehran with an opportunity to study and potentially reverse-engineer the advanced technology, which could be a setback for the Pentagon and drone maker Anduril. While US officials and Anduril have downplayed the significance of the capture, Washington has previously considered the loss of advanced drones to Iran a serious matter. Following the capture of an RQ-170 Sentinel drone in 2011, Iran claimed to have reverse-engineered it and later unveiled similar domestically produced models. The US military has recently taken steps to prevent Iranian forces from acquiring uncrewed maritime technology.
