Man who sprayed Ilhan Omar with vinegar sentenced to 14 months
Anthony Kazmierczak was sentenced to 14 months in prison for spraying US Representative Ilhan Omar with vinegar at a Minneapolis town hall on January 27th. The 56-year-old pleaded guilty to assaulting a US officer as part of a plea deal. The attack occurred during a period of heightened tensions in Minneapolis due to an immigration crackdown. Judge Joan N Ericksen stated the act was not spontaneous and was a terrifying action against an elected official. Kazmierczak, who has Parkinson's disease and a history of mental health concerns, apologized to Omar and expressed regret for his actions. He will also serve three years of supervised release, which includes no contact with Omar.
