Man charged with bomb threat against US consulate in Canada
Canadian police have charged Ali Assakereh, 54, with making a bomb threat against the US consulate in Halifax. The charges include uttering threats and public mischief. Police discovered a car linked to Assakereh parked near the consulate on Monday morning, which contained a propane tank and containers believed to hold flammable liquids. Several downtown streets were evacuated as a result, but an explosives expert later determined the items posed no public safety threat, and the evacuation was lifted. The incident is the latest security concern at an American diplomatic post in Canada, following two shootings at the US consulate in Toronto earlier this year.
