Harry Potter publisher to receive millions in Anthropic copyright settlement
Bloomsbury, the publisher of Harry Potter, will receive millions of pounds from a $1.5 billion copyright settlement between AI startup Anthropic and thousands of authors. The settlement addresses Anthropic's use of protected works to train its chatbots. Bloomsbury has 14,087 titles included in the settlement, with a proposed compensation of approximately $3,000 per title. The publisher expects to receive payments in installments, with proceeds to be shared with authors after deductions for legal fees. This settlement is the first major resolution among numerous AI copyright lawsuits filed by authors and news outlets in the US.
