North Korea fires ballistic missiles off eastern coast, Seoul says

South Korea's military reported that North Korea launched several ballistic missiles towards the sea off its eastern coast on Saturday morning. The missiles, detected launching from the Wonsan area, traveled approximately 250 kilometers. South Korea stated it has increased its surveillance and is closely exchanging information on the launches with the United States and Japan. Following the event, South Korea's presidential National Security Office convened an emergency security meeting. The US Pacific Command assessed that the launch does not pose an immediate threat to US territory or its allies. These launches occurred a day after South Korea concluded joint maritime drills with the US and Japan, which North Korea had previously criticized.
