Hurricane Polo has rapidly intensified into a rare Category 5 storm off the coast of Mexico in the Pacific Ocean. This rapid intensification, fueled by warm waters associated with El Niño, makes Polo the season's third Category 5 storm. While not expected to make landfall, Polo is predicted to skirt Mexico's southwestern coast, bringing torrential rainfall, potential flooding, mudslides, and life-threatening surf conditions to states like Jalisco, Colima, and Michoacan.
