Canada to fast track oil pipeline meant to diversify economy away from US
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada will fast-track the approval process for a new crude oil export pipeline to its west coast, named the Pacific Link. Declared a project of national interest, the pipeline will undergo a single federal regulatory review, with the aim of completion by September 1, 2027. This initiative is part of Canada's strategy to diversify its economy away from the United States, reduce reliance on US tariffs, and increase non-US exports. The project is projected to create 140,000 jobs, generate over 20 billion Canadian dollars in annual GDP, and 100 billion Canadian dollars in government revenue by 2060. This move aims to position Canada as a significant global energy supplier, particularly to Asian markets.
