G7 to release 100 million barrels of oil and diesel, will it curb prices?
The Group of Seven (G7) nations have agreed to release 100 million barrels of crude oil and diesel from emergency reserves over several months to combat soaring global energy prices. This decision, made after pressure from the US, aims to address price spikes triggered by the US and Israel's war on Iran and Russia's war on Ukraine. The release will begin immediately and last for four months, including a substantial diesel release within the first 20 days, with further discussions on additional diesel releases planned. The G7 also intends to coordinate refinery maintenance schedules to temporarily increase utilization rates. This coordinated action by the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Germany, Italy, France, and the EU seeks to stabilize the energy market amidst disruptions in supply from key exporting regions and high demand.
