South Korea considers steps to force North Korea apology for DMZ mine blast
South Korea is considering measures to compel North Korea to apologize for a recent landmine blast in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that injured three soldiers. A joint investigation concluded that North Korean forces planted the mines approximately a year ago. Seoul has demanded an official apology and urged Pyongyang to remove any other mines on the southern side of the military demarcation line. North Korea has denied responsibility and called the demand for an apology "despicable." South Korea also seeks to discuss border line discrepancies with North Korea and has conducted its own mine-clearing operations, pledging to continue if Pyongyang does not act. The UN Command confirmed the mine placement violated the 1953 armistice agreement.
