Ten people linked to Kenya's first-ever Ebola case quarantined as screening concerns grow
Kenya has quarantined ten individuals who had contact with its first-ever Ebola case, a man who died in Nairobi on Monday. Health officials are also tracing 57 other contacts of the deceased patient, who traveled extensively from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) before arriving in Kenya. The patient reportedly passed through multiple cities in the DRC, drove to Uganda, and then flew to Kenya, raising concerns about the effectiveness of screening measures. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention chief highlighted that the patient was sick for a month without detection during his journey. The current Ebola outbreak in the DRC is caused by the rare Bundibugyo species, for which there is no approved vaccine or treatment.
