Pakistani authorities arrest man accused in $126m US postage fraud
Pakistani authorities have arrested Faheem Akram, a 33-year-old man accused by US prosecutors of masterminding an online counterfeit stamp operation. The operation, which allegedly sold over 5.1 million fake stamps in the US since August 2023, is believed to have caused more than $125 million in losses to the US Postal Service. Akram was indicted last month by a federal grand jury in Florida on charges including conspiracy to defraud the US and wire fraud. Pakistani investigators found he used 16 bank accounts for the operation. Akram is currently in custody in Pakistan, and his trial location or potential extradition to the US remains unclear.
