Hong Kong police have intensified efforts to combat distracted driving, a behavior contributing to a significant rise in road fatalities. In a recent two-week crackdown from June 5 to 19, authorities arrested 24 drivers and issued over 4,000 tickets for offenses including distracted driving and jaywalking. This operation was prompted by a concerning surge in road accident deaths, which increased by more than 40% in the first five months of the year, with 51 fatalities recorded between January 1 and May 31. The police utilized unmarked vehicles to identify and penalize dangerous driving practices.
