Engineers are currently in the spotlight due to their critical role in both national defense and technological innovation. In the United States, President Trump has recognized top figures in the tech industry, including engineers, with the country's highest science and engineering awards, signaling a push for a "golden age" of science and technology, potentially to counter global competition. Simultaneously, the Philippines is actively recruiting engineers and cybersecurity specialists into its military. This move reflects the increasing importance of software, networks, and artificial intelligence in modern warfare. The recruitment drive highlights the evolving nature of military operations and the demand for specialized technical skills within defense forces. These developments underscore the contemporary relevance and significance of engineering expertise in shaping national security strategies and driving technological progress.
