Reporting from Washington, DC, USI think it’s notable in this tirade that Trump has just posted that there are no threats of an escalated conflict.In previous weeks, he has been oscillating between threatening Armageddon, essentially, basically utilising all the US’s military power to crush Iran, and at the same time talking about talks still being possible.But in this particular post, he makes no mention of military might. He makes no mention of the fact that he can utilise the US military to upgrade its operations against Iran.He’s talking specifically about economic measures.As I said, we do not know what these economic measures are. We do know that there has been an economic attack on Iran by the United States, in particular, the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, which has not allowed Iran to export its oil… The memorandum of understanding allowed Iran to export oil, but that was stopped when the memorandum basically fell away.So, there have been economic measures taken against Iran. Perhaps the only new thing in this message, apart from its tone, is the fact that anybody who associates with Iran in any way will suffer severe economic consequences as well.How much of a threat that is? Well, once again, the devil is in the details. How do you specifically target entities that he mentions offhand within this message to take action against them?So, it’s a trifle confusing, but above all, what it does indicate is that he is going to concentrate on some kind of economic strangulation, whatever form that takes – he’s talking about economic D-Day.Well, let’s see, specifically, and actually, what he means by that.
