A Hong Kong man has been sentenced to 22 months behind bars for driving dangerously and causing a 19-year-old student’s death at a pedestrian crossing two years ago.The District Court on Thursday also disqualified Ernest Au Yeung Shiu-hong from driving for five years and criticised his “extremely dangerous and irresponsible” attitude that led to Lisa Pun’s death on November 7, 2024.Au Yeung, an NGO event organiser, drove his Tesla Model Y past a box junction on On Lok Road in Yuen Long at almost 100km/h (62mph) at around 8am, as he tried to beat an amber light on his way to work in Tsim Sha Tsui.Pun, who crossed the road while the pedestrian light was red, was sent flying through the air upon collision and suffered serious injuries all over her body. She was certified dead in hospital six hours later.
