‘I was so isolated’: Pro-Palestine activist attempted suicide in UK prison

Charlotte Head, a 29-year-old pro-Palestine activist linked to Palestine Action, was recently released on bail in the UK after spending 18 months in pre-trial detention. Head was one of the "Filton 24" accused of raiding the Bristol branch of Elbit Systems UK in August 2024. Palestine Action, which claimed responsibility for the Elbit Systems raid and a later incident at an Oxfordshire airbase, was subsequently proscribed as a terrorist organization. Head claims that this designation led to harsher treatment within the prison system, including difficulties with family visits and book screenings. While imprisoned, Head attempted suicide due to depression and isolation. She had not been convicted of any crime and her pre-trial detention exceeded the typical six-month limit.
