Orbán und sein Außenminister ließen nach einer Sondersitzung des nationalen Verteidigungsrats in Budapest durchblicken, dass sie die Ukraine verdächtigen, einen Sabotageakt an dieser Pipeline geplant zu haben. Die Pipeline bringt russisches Erdgas von der Türkei über Bulgarien und Serbien nach Ungarn. Vučić und Orbán sprachen telefonisch über den Fall, wie beide bestätigten. Die Ukrainer hätten bereits die Nord-Stream-Pipeline zerstört und blockierten die Erdöl-Zufuhr aus Russland nach Ungarn über die durch die Ukraine führende Druschba-Pipeline. Zudem greife die ukrainische Armee ständig den auf russischem Territorium befindlichen Teil der Gas-Pipeline Turkstream an. Der Ungarn versorgende Balkan Stream ist die Fortsetzung von Turkstream.Orbán wirft Kiew schon länger vor, eine Wiederaufnahme des Betriebs der Druschba-Pipeline aus politischen Gründen zu verhindern.
