A resident of Hong Kong’s fire-ravaged Wang Fuk Court housing estate in Tai Po has said that a drawer in her flat had been rummaged through, prompting a Police investigation and rekindling burglary fears in the sealed residential complex.Police launched the probe after a resident surnamed Lee raised concerns about a possible burglary early on Tuesday. A government social worker had sent her a photograph of her flat in Wang Cheong House the day before, which showed drawers and boxes that appeared to have been ransacked.A drawer in one room had been pulled out, and boxes containing cash and jewellery had also been opened, she said.Police initially asked her family members on Monday to report the case if they confirmed any items were missing after checking the flat during their assigned pack-up time slot next week. However, officers were later deployed to inspect the flat the next day.“Police dispatched officers to the flat for follow-up action on Tuesday morning, and found cash, jewellery and other items inside. We are awaiting confirmation from the person who reported the case,” a force spokesman said.Lee later confirmed that the drawer in her sister’s room had been rummaged through, but other parts of the flat did not appear to have been broken into.“Most of the cash stored in other spots in the flat has been recovered,” she said.
