Hong Kong official urges vaccinations as early summer flu season and peak likely

Hong Kong health authorities are warning of an earlier-than-usual summer flu season, with a peak anticipated later this month. Dr. Edwin Tsui Lok-kin, controller of the Centre for Health Protection, stated that influenza activity in the city has been rising since May. This prediction is based on the observation that the previous summer flu season ran from September to January, and the absence of a winter flu season this year suggests an earlier arrival for the summer season. Health officials are strongly encouraging unvaccinated residents to get vaccinated to protect themselves.
