Event Overview
Marine archaeologists have discovered the remains of the Danish warship *Dannebroge* in Copenhagen harbor. The ship was sunk 225 years ago by the British fleet under Admiral Horatio Nelson during the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801. The discovery is newsworthy due to the historical significance of the battle and the ship itself. Divers are currently working under challenging conditions – at a depth of 15 meters with poor visibility and thick sediment – to excavate the wreckage before further deterioration or disturbance occurs. The ongoing recovery efforts highlight the importance of preserving maritime heritage and provide an opportunity to learn more about naval warfare and shipbuilding techniques of the early 19th century. The discovery offers a tangible link to a pivotal moment in Danish and British history.
