Sudan conflict

Sudan is embroiled in a conflict primarily between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The RSF, along with allies like the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North (SPLM-N), has recently advanced into Kurmuk, a strategically important town in Blue Nile state bordering Ethiopia. This development highlights the ongoing territorial gains and shifting frontlines in the protracted conflict. Adding to international concerns, Human Rights Watch has accused the United Arab Emirates of serving as a transit point for mercenaries allegedly being trained in UAE military facilities before covert deployment to Sudan. These mercenaries are reportedly involved in gross human rights violations, including extrajudicial killings, rape, sexual slavery, and destruction of civilian infrastructure. The RSF has faced significant international condemnation for its alleged actions. The conflict's continuation and the alleged international involvement underscore its regional instability and the severe humanitarian crisis it has created.
