Amiet Market

Amiet Market is located in the disputed border region between Sudan and South Sudan, north of Abyei town. This area is a point of contention between the two nations. The market recently became newsworthy due to a significant drone attack that occurred on Monday. According to local officials, including the Abyei administration's caretaker information minister, Yohanna Akol Ngor, the attack was carried out by Sudan's military and resulted in the deaths of at least 153 people. The strike reportedly hit a nearby fuel depot, causing a high casualty count and severe injuries, with some individuals suffering from burns. Medical organizations like MSF are treating the wounded. The incident highlights the ongoing instability and conflict in this strategically important and disputed territory.
