Azores

The Azores are a group of islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Recent news highlights two distinct aspects of the region. Firstly, researchers have, for the first time, filmed sperm whales engaging in head-butting behavior off the coasts of the Azores and the Balearic Islands. This confirms historical accounts from whalers and provides new insights into the behavior of these marine mammals, particularly their use of their massive heads. Secondly, Portuguese police made a record seizure of approximately nine tonnes of cocaine from a semi-submersible vessel intercepted near the Azores. This is believed to be the largest cocaine shipment ever found on a narco-sub bound for Europe, underscoring the Azores' location as a potential transit point for drug trafficking.
