Daulatdia

Daulatdia is a location in Bangladesh, specifically in the Rajbari district, known for its ferry terminal on the Padma River and its large brothel. It is newsworthy due to two recent events. Firstly, a passenger bus carrying approximately 40 people plunged into the Padma River while attempting to board a ferry at the Daulatdia terminal, resulting in at least 23-24 fatalities. The bus reportedly lost control as it approached the ferry. Secondly, after decades of existence, children born in the Daulatdia brothel, previously unregistered due to their mothers' status as sex workers and unknown fathers, have now been issued birth certificates. This milestone, affecting around 400 children, was achieved through the efforts of campaigners. Daulatdia's significance lies in its role as a transportation hub and its unique social context as home to one of Bangladesh's largest brothels.
