Fresnes

Fresnes is a commune in the Val-de-Marne department of France. The Fresnes town hall is currently newsworthy due to a recent incident of vandalism. On March 27, 2026, the town hall was attacked and significantly damaged by a group of approximately twenty individuals, some of whom were hooded. The attack occurred on the eve of the installation of the new mayor, Christophe Carlier (LR). The perpetrators used what appeared to be a mortar to break into the building and caused extensive damage, estimated at nearly 50,000 euros, including damage to a nearby auto-école and a Caisse d'Epargne branch. In the aftermath, thirteen people, mainly minors aged 14-16 and originating from Fresnes and surrounding areas, were arrested. Ten of these minors have been charged in connection with the incident, with some placed under judicial supervision. The investigation is ongoing, with a possible political motive being considered. The incident has sparked debate about delinquency and the need for societal change.
