Hasakeh province

Hasakeh province, located in northeastern Syria, is the site of the Al-Hol camp. This camp houses thousands of individuals with links to the Islamic State group (ISIL/ISIS). Al-Hol has been under the control of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) for several years. However, recent developments have shifted the control of the camp to Syrian government forces. This transfer occurred after clashes between the SDF and government forces, and amidst government demands for the SDF to integrate into the Syrian military. The US military has also been involved, transferring ISIL detainees from Syria to Iraq. The change in control of Al-Hol is significant due to the camp's large population and the potential security risks associated with housing individuals linked to ISIL. The SDF has urged the US-led coalition to take responsibility for securing facilities now under government control.
