Kurdish Region

The Kurdish Region is a semi-autonomous region in northern Iraq with its own government and armed forces (Peshmerga). It borders Turkey, Syria, and Iran, and has a distinct Kurdish cultural identity. Simultaneously, the leader of an Iranian Kurdish nationalist group based in the region stated that a ground operation into Iran is "highly likely." This follows reported strikes by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on rebel targets within the Kurdish Region.
