Kwai Chung Estate

Kwai Chung Estate is a large public housing complex in Hong Kong. It has recently been the focus of news due to two separate incidents. First, a power outage lasting four hours affected approximately 760 households in Ha Kwai House within the estate. CLP Power attributed the outage, which occurred just before Lunar New Year's Eve, to a suspected equipment fault triggered by a water leak. Second, a fatal crane collapse occurred at a construction site on Tai Wo Hau Road, near Pik Kwai House, which is part of Kwai Chung Estate. While the collapse didn't directly impact the estate's residents, it has prompted calls for a review of crane safety guidelines and mandatory metal fatigue testing in Hong Kong. These incidents highlight concerns about infrastructure maintenance and safety regulations in the vicinity of residential areas.
