Novorossiysk

Novorossiysk is a strategically important Russian port city located on the Black Sea. It serves as a major naval base and a key hub for Russian exports. Recently, Novorossiysk has become newsworthy due to Ukrainian military actions targeting Russian assets within the port. Specifically, Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) claimed responsibility for an underwater drone strike on a Russian Kilo-class submarine docked in Novorossiysk. This attack, reportedly carried out using domestically developed "Sea Baby" drones, marks the first known instance of Ukraine employing such technology against a Russian submarine. The strike is significant as it demonstrates Ukraine's evolving capabilities in maritime warfare and its willingness to target Russian naval assets, even within what was previously considered a relatively safe harbor. The damaged submarine was equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles, which have been used to target Ukrainian cities, adding to the strategic importance of the attack.
