Vladimir Putin is the President of Russia, a nation currently engaged in a significant conflict with Ukraine. Russia recently declared a two-day ceasefire on May 8-9, coinciding with its Victory Day celebrations, which commemorate the defeat of Nazi Germany. This move, ordered by Putin, was presented as a unilateral truce, with Moscow expecting Ukraine to reciprocate. However, Ukraine's President Zelenskyy condemned this as "utter cynicism," accusing Russia of launching deadly strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, including facilities of the state energy firm Naftogaz, during the period of proposed ceasefire talks. These attacks resulted in casualties. Amidst these developments, Russia also implemented heightened security measures in Moscow, including airport closures and mobile internet disruptions, in anticipation of the Victory Day parade, which is reportedly scaled back this year. Putin has also been involved in international discussions, including a conversation with former US President Donald Trump regarding the wars in Ukraine and Iran, and has expressed a desire to be involved in settling the Iranian nuclear enrichment issue.
