Pikine

Pikine is a city in Senegal that is gaining attention for two distinct reasons. Firstly, it is home to the Arène nationale, a significant venue for Senegalese wrestling (lutte sénégalaise). This arena recently hosted a major wrestling match between Modou Lô and Sa Thiès, broadcast internationally to 48 countries, highlighting Pikine as a center for this national sport. Secondly, Pikine is the location of one of Senegal's 'School of Husbands'. This program, endorsed by the government and supported by the UN, aims to address gender inequality by educating men on gender equality and challenging deep-rooted biases. The program has trained over 300 men across 20 schools in Senegal, with one school located in Pikine. Pikine's relevance stems from its role in promoting both traditional Senegalese culture and progressive social change.
