About
Piton de la Fournaise is an active volcano located on Réunion Island, a French territory in the Indian Ocean. It is one of the world's most active volcanoes and a significant landmark for the island. The volcano is newsworthy due to its recent eruptive activity. After a pause on March 25th, the eruption resumed on Saturday, March 28th, at 3 PM. By Sunday morning, lava was flowing again down the Grandes Pentes. The lava flow reached the RN2 road and, on Monday, March 30th, reached the Indian Ocean for the first time in 19 years. This eruption, which began on February 13th, marks the second eruption of Piton de la Fournaise this year. The event attracts tourists and locals, but the lava flows have also caused disruption by cutting off roads.
