Scarborough Shoal

Scarborough Shoal is a contested feature in the South China Sea, claimed by both China and the Philippines. It's a key flashpoint in ongoing maritime disputes between the two nations. The Philippines has warned it would stage military exercises across a large area of the disputed South China Sea for more than two months, prompting accusations from China of “deliberately stoking maritime tensions”. Recently, the Chinese Coast Guard rescued Filipino crew members near the shoal after their ship capsized, transferring survivors and remains to Philippine vessels.
