Sicaya is a city located in the central Andes region of Peru, specifically within Huancayo province. It recently became newsworthy due to a significant seismic event. On Saturday night, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Sicaya, with its epicenter located just a couple of kilometers west-southwest of the city at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers. This earthquake had devastating consequences, resulting in at least five fatalities and displacing hundreds of residents. Numerous homes and a church reportedly collapsed. Authorities have warned that the number of missing persons remains unknown, highlighting the ongoing impact and recovery efforts in the region.
