Tooro kingdom

The Tooro kingdom, a traditional monarchy in Uganda, is currently embroiled in a bitter succession dispute following the recent death and burial of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. King Oyo, who ascended to the throne at the remarkably young age of three in 1995, becoming the world's youngest monarch, passed away on August 27th in the US. His burial took place at the Karambi Royal Tombs, a significant royal burial site. The immediate cause of the current controversy stems from the rejection by the late king's family of the appointed successor, news anchor Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma. Kijanangoma's formal handover of power was marked by casting coffee berries into the grave, an act intended to signify the transition. This dispute highlights ongoing tensions within the kingdom as it navigates the post-King Oyo era and seeks to resolve the contentious matter of leadership.
